This movement was developed in the name of children 'Stop the Child Murder' and it is considered one of the starting points of the Dutch cycling and pedestrian safety culture in cities.
In 1971, more than 400 children were killed in traffic accidents in The Netherlands. After a decade of a sustained increase in the use of private car in Dutch cities and a peak of traffic casualties, grassroots movements started to advocate for child safety in cities through reducing the presence of cars.
